Lars Olson was born about 1840. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”
The army listed him as living in Neshonoc, La Crosse County, WI, age 21, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 11, 1861 at La Crosse, WI, and mustered on December 10, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). Olson was left sick in hospital at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on June 11, 1862. He became unfit for service and was discharged at Columbus, KY on October 16, 1862 by order of Lt. Col. Clutt.
After the war in 1890, Olsen was living in Little Falls, Monroe County, WI. His wife filed a pension in his name on July 26, 1895 in WI.
