Hans Pederson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company D. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Wolf Hunters.” They were also known as the “Waupun Company” because so many of its members were from Waupun.
The army listed him as living in New Lisbon, Juneau County, WI, age 30, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on October 28, 1861 at Strongs Point, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI on December 8, 1861 as a Private (Menig). Pederson was left sick in Mississippi River Island No. 10 on June 11, 1862. He died of disease at a mobile hospital in Columbus, KY on September 23, 1862.
