Christian Simonson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”
The army listed him as living in Gale, Trempealeau County, WI, born in Norway, age 18, a farmer, and unmarried. He had blue eyes, light brown hair, fair complexion, and stood 5’6”. He enlisted for three years on February 26, 1864 at La Crosse, WI, but enlistment was credited to La Crosse. He mustered there the same day and is listed as a recruit and a Private (Menig). He joined Company E at Knoxville, TN, transferred to Company H at Whiteside, TN, and was temporarily assigned to the 24th Infantry. On June 11, 1865, he transferred to I Company of the WI 13th. He mustered out at San Antonio, TX, on November 24, 1865.
