Peter M. Soderberg was born on December 19, 1828. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.
The army listed him as living in Waterford, Racine County, WI, age 35, and married. His wife was Mary Elizabeth Johnson. He enlisted for three years on December 31, 1863 at Waterford and mustered at Madison, WI on January 28, 1864 as a Private (Menig). He joined the Company at Strawberry Plains, VA and transferred to Company 145, 2nd Battery, of the Veterans Reserve Corps on November 22, 1864. He mustered out at Nashville, TN on August 26, 1865. After the war, he worked as a laborer. He was buried at Norway Cemetery, Norway, Racine, WI.
