The army listed him as living in Sparta, WI. At the time, he was married to Gurnild. He enlisted on November 18, 1861 at Sparta and mustered at Madison, WI on December 2, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He died of disease at Bird’s Point, MO on April 7, 1862. Gurnild filed for a pension in 1863. She filed again under her new married name, Fenney, in 1913.
