Thomas O. Wool joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.

He is listed as living in Ossian, Winneshiek County, IA, age 29, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years at Madison, WI, on February 16, 1862 and mustered there on February 19, 1862 as a Private (Menig). He was absent without leave during November 1862. He disappeared from hospital in Cave City, KY on March 31, 1863 or November 1, 1862 and, according to War Department records, was not heard from after that. He was listed as a deserter on November 1, 1863.
