Anders Anderson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company B. The men of the company called themselves the “Wergeland Guards” in honor of Henrik Wergeland, the famous Norwegian writer and poet.
The army listed Anderson as living in Madison, Dane County, WI, unmarried, and age 33. He enlisted for three years on March 5, 1862, at Madison, and mustered there the same day as a Private (Menig). He became unfit for service and was discharged from the service at Iuka, MS, on August 18, 1862, for disability.
