John Anderson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G. The men of the company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.”
The army listed Anderson as living in Perry, Dane County, WI, age 18, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 8, 1862, at Perry, and mustered at Madison, WI, as a Private (Menig). He was sick in the general hospital at Columbus, KY, on August 22, 1862. He became unfit for service and was discharged from the service for disease on October 20, 1862. In 1886, John Anderson was living in Des Moines, IA. On October 22, 1920, his widow, Martha, filed for a pension under his name.
