Oluf Anderson was born in Norway. He joined WI 15th Infantry, Company I. The men of the company called themselves the “Scandinavian Mountaineers” but were also known as the “Waupaca Company” because so many of them were living in that Wisconsin county when they enlisted.

The army listed Anderson as living in East Troy, Walworth County, WI, age 22, and a farmer. He had blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, and stood 5’10”. He enlisted for three years on January 9, 1864 at Madison, WI, and mustered there on February 17, 1864 as a Private (Menig). He later mustered out with his company. On September 2, 1872, he filed a pension by himself.
