Peder O. Froynees joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company B. The men of his company called themselves the “Wergeland Guards” in honor of Henrik Wergeland, the famous Norwegian writer and poet.
The army listed Froynees as living in Pleasant Spring, Dane County, WI, age 47, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 5, 1861 at Madison, WI, and mustered there on November 16, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He was sick in hospital in Nashville, TN in September 1862. He discharged from the service from Nashville for disability on December 19, 1862.
In 1885, he and his wife Marit (Marie) were living in St. Olaf, Otter Tail County, MN. Both were born in Norway. There were no children listed.
