He transferred from Company A to Regimental Headquarters, near Murfreesboro, TN, on September 1, 1862 and appointed Regimental Commissary Sergeant (Sersjant). Gysler was sent to hospital at Nashville, TN on August 7, 1863. He was was reported to have been absent sick on February 24, 1864 as well. He was demoted to ranks on December 1, 1864 by the order of Lt. Col. Ole Johnson, reason not given. He mustered out with Company A on December 20, 1864.
