Lars T. Halling joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.” The army listed Halling as living in Brodhead, Green County, WI, age 44, and married. He enlisted for three years on November 12, 1861 in Green County, WI, and mustered on December 8, 1861, at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He was left sick in the hospital at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on June 11, 1862. He was discharged from the service there for disability on June 23, 1863 by the order of Major General Henry W. Halleck. After the war, he lived in Spring Valley, WI.
