Ole Halvorsen joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”
The army listed Halvorsen as living in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI, age 30, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on December 11, 1861 at La Crosse, and mustered on December 20, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He was left sick in hospital at Bowling Green, KY on September 16, 1862. He died there of disease on September 24, 1862. He was buried in the National Cemetery at Nashville, TN. His mother, Gunnild Tollisson, filed a pension in his name on May 16, 1863.
