William Knudsen Hansen was born on February 18, 1843 in Boone County, IL. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C as a Private (Menig). The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.
Knudsen was married Martha Holverson on March 28/30, 1866, Boone County, IL. He died on January 19, 1899, in Franklin County, NE. [WV index shows a William K. Hanson in the 4th Battery. There is also a William Hanson in 14th Co. G].
