Thosten Hendrickson immigrated with his brother, Knute, and sister-in-law, Guri, in 1861. Hendrickson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.
The army listed Hendrickson as living in Norway Township, Racine County, WI, age 30, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on December 10, 1861 at Waterford, WI, and mustered on December 20, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He was seriously wounded at Chickamauga, GA on September 19, 1863 and sent to Chattanooga, TN. He was absent from his company because of those wounds. On June 15, 1864, he was in a hospital in Nashville, TN, and in Madison, WI from June 28, 1864 through July 30, 1864. Hendrickson was mustered out at Madison on January 9, 1865, when his term of service had expired. He still had a bounty due of $100. He is entered on the Roll of Honor of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps.
After the war, he lived in Minneola, Goodhue County, MN. He married Ingeborg Johansdatter in Goodhue on November 3, 1879. They had at least one child named Hendrick. In 1910, he was a widower and living with Hendrick and his family.
