Horace Hill was born in 1808 in NY. He married Harriet and they had at least two children, including Milven (1843 in OH), and Carrie (1850 in IL).
Hill joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G. The men of his company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.”
The army listed Hill as living in Beloit, Rock County, WI, married, and age 50. He enlisted for three years as musician on October 26, 1861 at Beloit, and mustered at Madison, WI on December 13, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He was discharged from the service for disease at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on May 13, 1862.
After the war, Hill and his family lived in Boone County, IL. He worked as a farmer. By 1880, Hill was a widower and living with Carrie and her family in Fulda, Murray County, MN. He was working as a dealer in goods and groceries. He died due to paralysis in 1884.
