The army listed him as living in Boone County, IL, age 20, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 3, 1862 in Boone County, and mustered on January 8, 1862, at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He died of disease in Nashville, TN on December 2, 1862.
