Ole Kjostolson was from Holt, Norway. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.” The army listed him as living in Coon, Bad Ax (Vernon) County, WI, age 35, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 22, 1861 in Bad Ax County, and mustered on December 10, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). Kjostolson was detached to WI 8th Battery, Light Artillery, on July 29, 1863, by the order of Col. Hans C. Heg. He re-enlisted in that Battery on January 5, 1864. After the war, he lived in Dane County.
