The Hardanger Fiddle Association of America invites you to join our 2021 Annual Workshop – online! This is your chance to spend four days immersed in the mesmerizing music and dance of the Hardanger fiddle–Thursday, July 22nd through Sunday, July 25th.
The jam-packed long weekend will feature master fiddlers from Norway Kenneth de Gala teaching advanced hardingfele and Sivert Andreas Holmen teaching intermediate hardingfele. Teaching dance (telespringar and telegangar) will be master dancers from Norway Kristian Ihle Hanto and Borghild Hardang Hanto.
They will be joined by domestic talents Mira Dickey teaching beginning hardingfele, Loretta Kelley and Karin Code leading samspel (group playing sessions), Cait Vitale-Sullivan teaching singing, and Carol Sersland leading a traditional Norwegian sing-along.
Our popular panel of expert US-based hardingfele luthiers will be returning with advice on instrument repairs, purchasing, maintenance, and much more. Finally, we are especially proud to feature a lecture-demonstration on the three-beat hardingfele music and dance traditions of Norway by renowned Norwegian fiddle and dance expert Vegar Vårdal. And one evening will feature a dance party with our famous “lightning round” (one tune per performer in quick sequence), and our Saturday evening will culminate in our traditional march and a gala concert featuring all our teachers.
